The Sacred Movement Academy

Trauma-Informed Yoga & Ayurveda Education for Real-World Impact

The Sacred Movement Academy is a BIPOC-founded, led, and directed school offering trauma-informed Yoga Teacher Training, Ayurveda education, and holistic facilitator certifications across New York City and Puerto Rico.

Beyond our 200HR Yoga Teacher Training, we offer standalone courses and a flexible, modular 300HR Yoga Teacher Training pathway—many with no prerequisites—allowing students to train, specialize, or build a Yoga Alliance–recognized certification.

As a global learning community rooted in inclusivity, accessibility, equity, and integrity, we provide both 200HR Yoga Teacher Training (YTT), while also offering standalone courses such as Breathwork Facilitator Training, Ayurveda programs, and specialized continuing education that do not require prior yoga certification as a flexible, modular 300HR advanced certification pathway.

Our 300HR modules are designed to serve both pathways: they can be taken individually for personal or professional development, or combined by certified teachers to build a fully customized 300HR Yoga Alliance certification based on their academic interests and career goals. Through this approach, we support practitioners in becoming skilled, embodied facilitators and holistic health professionals who integrate ancient wisdom with modern, real-world application.

Who We Are

The Sacred Movement Academy is more than a yoga school—it is a community-centered educational space rooted in healing, social justice, and embodied leadership. Based in New York City and Puerto Rico, we serve a diverse student body seeking depth, authenticity, and transformation.

As a BIPOC-led organization, we are committed to amplifying the voices of people of color, queer communities, and those historically marginalized by systems of oppression. Our work exists at the intersection of education, activism, and wellness.

What We Stand For

Yoga as Activism, Ayurveda as Longevity

We view yoga as a tool for awareness, social change, and collective liberation. Ayurveda, as a complementary science, supports sustainable health, longevity, and resilience—empowering practitioners to maintain the energy and clarity needed to serve others effectively.

Our work is grounded in four foundational pillars: inclusivity, accessibility, equity, and integrity. These values shape every aspect of our curriculum, community, and teaching methodology.

Our pillars

  • Line drawing of two hands, one above the other, with a heart between them.

    INCLUSIVITY

We honor all identities and create welcoming spaces for all bodies, backgrounds, and experiences

  • Minimalist icon of a hand holding a clock with a human figure inside it, symbolizing time management or health care.

    ACCESSIBILITY

We make education approachable through flexible formats, sliding scale options, and support.

  • Outline illustration of a hand holding scales, symbolizing justice or law.

    Equity

We are committed to justice, representation, and redistributing resources within our community.

  • Outline of a white heart on a dark teal background.

    Integrity

We strive for embodied living so we may lead with honesty, accountability, and alignment in all that we do.
